Reviewing the State of Forests in Europe

It’s time for a stocktake of the state of European forests. Forest Europe (formerly the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe; MCPFE) is planning the release of the next four yearly review later this year with a review of the status and trends in sustainable forest management in Europe. It will follow the style and content of the previous edition in 2011. In addition, the European Environment Agency (EEA) is preparing a review of an ecosystems based assessment of European forests which will also be published in 2015. This will discuss the application of the Ecosystems Based Management approach in order to explore options for future policy and management. Andy Moffat is involved in both projects, having been commissioned to write and review specific chapters in the Forest Europe report. He has also been asked to join the Advisory Group which is reviewing and contributing to the EEA ecosystems study. For further information go to the relevant Forest Europe and EEA websites.
